With George as a base, one can strike out in different directions and enjoy some beautiful hiking trails.
This 1 day , 28 km moderate hike can also be done as a 14 km linear hike. It is in the Goukamma Nature Reserve and there is an overnight hut available.

DORING RIVER, WIDERNESS
In the Outeniqua Nature Reserve, the closest town being George, this 130km, 2 to 7 day trail is of average to difficult standard which offers various options including overnight stay and camping facilities. A permit can be obtained from the Witberg District Office and the Outeniqua Nature Reserve.
DORING RIVER WILDERNESS CIRCLE ROUTE
This 6 hour long,15 km circular route starts at Waboomskraal. It highlights the fynbos, mountain scenery and the river in a short trail. Game such as klipspringer, grey rhebuck, leopard and also nuerous small rodents can sometimes be seen.
A permit can be obtaned from the Witfontein District Office and the Outeniqua Nature Reserve.
This is a 4km short walk at Herold's Bay. No permit is required. Simply park at the beach and walk in an easterly direction towards the residential area. The road and footpath overlooks the sea.
GLENTANA BEACH TO A SHIPWRECK
At Glentana, near George, this 6km, 3 hour long circular, easy route, takes you along a rocky beach, past some caves and also includes the wreckage of a floating dock.
Starting at the top of Montagu Pass (the old gravel quarry on the western side) or on the Outeniqua Pass, enjoy the views of the Outeniqua Mountain Range and take in the beautiful fynbos.
This is a day walk, 4,7km long.
Starting from the hotel in Herold's Bay, this 4km easy walk along the road and path overlooks the sea and has some magnificent views.
A 30km average hiking trail in a circular direction in the Outeniqua Nature Reserve.
A 3km one way easy walk starting at the Great Brak Municipality and ending at the Wolwedans Dam lookout point along the river and is rich with bird life.
HARKERVILLE FOREST LODGE
An easy, 6 km circular route in the indigenous Harkerville Forest. Starts and ends at the Lodge - the trail is exclusive to the Lodge, where permits are available.
PERDEKOP NATURE WALK
Perdekop Nature Walk is a one day walk of 9,5Km beginning and ending Harkerville Forest Station. It is a moderate walk, to be completed in 3 to 4 hours.Predominantly through indigenous forest, it passes a beautiful natural swimming pool at the foot of a waterfall and is surrounded by Ferns.

The Oystercatcher Trail is a 5 day, guided, eco-coastal hiking trail along the beautiful beaches west of Mossel Bay to the Gourits River. Averaging 13 - 16 km per day with day packs. A 3 day hike from Boggomsbaai to Gourits River is also available.
View the dolphins frolickng in the surf. Watch the Southern Right Whales from July to October and swim and snorkel in the rock pools.
MOSSEL BAY TO DANA BAY
A 15km/5 hour day walk which starts at Bat's Cove. Enjoy the scenery of the rugged coastline, the beautiful rock formations and interesting plant life.
Kranshoek Day Walk
The Kranshoek Coastal walk is a fairly strenuous nine kilometre day walk from Harkerville Forest, with a 200 metre descent and ascent to the shore. The walk traverses coastal forest and incorporates some spectacular coastal scenery. Not an easy trail and people with a fear of heights may encounter some problems. Take the trail at a leaisurely pace and enjoy the scenery.
Kranshoek Nature Walk
There are two options; a 3km, 2 hour or a 9 km, 5hour, average to difficult route. There is one very steep section.
A 108km, 7 day/8 night, average hiking trail.
Terblans Nature Walk
A 6.5km, 2.5 hour, average, circular route in the Gouna State Forest.
