The road around the Peninsula follows Kloof Nek, Victoria Drive, Chapman's Peak and then around the back past Kommetjie towards Cape Point, Smitswinkel Bay, Millers Point and into Simon's Town.
Red Hill Road was a branch road built across from Kommetjie and Scarborough as a shortcut to Simon's Town.
It is a winding road running to the top of Mount Pleasant and offers panoramic views of Simon' Town and the greater False Bay area.
Indeed it is a 'must see' in one's travels around the Peninsula. A typical drive may include Chapman's Peak (when open), through Kommetjie, Scarborough, a visit to Cape Point with its breathtaking scenery and sheer cliffs, and then around Smitswinkel. Take in the quaint, historic suburb of Simon's Town, where there is plenty to do including a visit to Boulders with its World famous colony of penguins.
Leaving Simon's Town, turn left into Red Hill Road and enjoy the drive.
A visit to this area is bound to take one more than just a short while. Apart from the town, the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve, incorporating Cape Point, is a fascinating visit. Popularly regarded as where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, inaccurately of course as this point is in fact at Cape Agulhas, Cape Point is the geographical tip of Africa.
Take the time out to savour the history, mystique and beauty of Cape Point. The view from the cliffs over the ocean are awesome and humbling, connecting one to nature.
